Pastor
The Rev. Michael Shingler serves as pastor of Hope Presbyterian Church. In this position, it is his job to faithfully proclaim God’s word every Sunday. Together with the other elders, he shepherds the flock of Christ which God has placed in Syracuse. Mike also is heard monthly on the Mars Hill Network’s “Pastor for the Day” segment, and writes regular blog posts.
Mike lives in Syracuse with his wife, Sabrina, and their faithful beagle. They have several adult children. In addition to his work in the church, Mike enjoys fishing.
The Session
The church is governed by the elders of the church, meeting “in session”. This governing body is, therefore, often called “the Session” of the church. In addition to the pastor (who is an elder), the church also has ruling elders who sit on the Session. All of the elders are individually and jointly responsible to teach, shepherd, and care for the flock.
Our current ruling elders are Jonathan Looney and Joe Novembrini.
The Diaconate
The deacons of the church care for the temporal needs of the flock, conduct or coordinate acts of mercy, and care for the church’s physical plant. The office of Deacon is a spiritual office, the origin of which is described in Acts 6:1-6, and explained also in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.
Our current deacon is John Mossotti.
